Dorset

The Pig on the Beach

Perched on the Dorset cliffs within a charming hamlet overlooking Studland Bay’s sandy beaches, this 16th-century manor house now a luxury hotel offers the best views and upscale countryside escape.

A fairytale exterior with its yellow painted turrets, the interior takes on a shabby chic home-from-home vibe with rambling staircases, quirky features, roll-top baths, and vintage style fabrics. Food is superb, served in a Victorian-style conservatory restaurant adorned with herb pots and watering cans.

For kids:

Cots are available for those under 3s and extra beds for those under 12s. Larger rooms can accommodate the extra bed or cot and there are also interconnecting rooms. Babysitters can be booked through a local agency prior to arrival. The lawns are great for running and there are a number of stunning walks on your doorstep. Older kids could also try kayaking in Studland Bay or horse riding. And if the weather doesn’t play ball, DVDs and board games can help save the day. The restaurant also has its own children’s Piglet menu and staff are always on hand to help with requests.

For Adults:

Spa treatments in the shepherd huts and the bottom of the wild meadow offer simple facials and massages using organic Bamford products. And the open all-hours cosy wood-panelled bar complete with huge plump sofas. Boasting a fabulous wine list, seasonal cocktails, and artisan snacks.

The Cotswolds

The Fish Hotel

This place is like an adventure playground set on a sprawling 400 acres near the town of Broadway. Borrow a pair of wellies from their dedicated boots room, pick up a map, and explore the area. The Fish is made up of a collection of quirky country houses, huts, treehouses, and a private farmhouse. It’s a wonderful place to wake up, with incredible views over the Cotswolds countryside.

The seafood-inspired restaurant Hook, constructed of windows resembles a greenhouse. In the summer months, alfresco dining can also be arranged on the feasting deck. Dog friendly too, your pooch will be spoilt rotten here with their own afternoon tea menu and agility course. The perfect place for the whole family!

For Kids:

Cots are available and free for children two and under. Three to 12 years olds can stay for £40 a night in either existing or extra beds in Small/Big Suites and Treehouses. The outdoor play area made from recycled wood is a great place to let off steam. Or let them head indoors to the Games Room with retro arcade games, pool table and board games. For a special treat reserve, the 14 seat cinema (for free) to watch a movie.

For Adults:

Calcot Manor

Another Cotswolds gem is the Calcot Manor, a 14th-century farmhouse three miles from Tetbury. Designed with a shabby-chic flair and with only 35 rooms, it’s ideal for those looking for a more boutique feel. Set over 220 acres of rolling English countryside, the grounds are great for family bike rides too.

The luxury hotel’s rustic Gumstool Inn has a cosy, relaxed atmosphere and uses locally sourced ingredients to create pub grub classics.

For Kids:

Family rooms come with bunk beds or there are generous-sized Family Pads available. The smallest guests will also have essentials like sterilisers and bottle warmers for use. Book little ones onto the creche at the Play Barn or even a baking masterclass. Children 8 and above have The Mez, an Aladdin’s cave with PlayStations, Wii consoles, and Xboxes. During warmer months there is an outdoor heated swimming pool and a heated indoor pool for children during Family Swim Times.

For Adults:

Soho Farmhouse

The rural retreat is set on 100 acres of beautiful Cotswolds countryside and has a real village feel about it. Part of the Soho House Group, Soho Farmhouse is one of their kid-friendly properties.

Essentially a members club, it does allow bookings for non-members but spaces are limited so book well in advance. Cabins are dotted throughout the property, with robes personalised to height, rocking chairs on the patio, outdoor baths, and height-adjusted bikes at the front door.

Try out the 24-hour milk truck manned by mixologists for cocktails delivered straight to your door. Or how about breakfast cooked on your doorstep from the mobile cafe. Don’t worry the heated indoor-outdoor pool at the boathouse can help work off all the calories.

For Kids: There is the Teeny Camp & Barn play area. The cabins come with a mini kitchenette area so you can heat bottles and rustle up a quick breakfast or snack for kids if need be. Travel cots, baby monitors, and kids size wellies and bikes are also available. Children are welcome in Main Barn from Monday to Friday until 8 pm, but it is a child-free area during weekends and bank holidays from 12pm. Horse riding is also available for children and guests aged four and up.

For Adults: Experience the joy of the Cowshed Spa, and book a haircut, blow-dry, or grooming treatment. Escape to the Fancy Farm and Comfy Farm which are child-free areas at all times. There is also the Electric Barn Cinema, which shows old classics and kids films if you need to occupy the little ones for a couple of hours.

Bedruthan Hotel & Spa

The coastal luxury hotel has a stunning clifftop position above a sandy beach in North Cornwall. Only walking distance from the famous Bedruthan Steps it’s the perfect location.

Overlooking Fowey Port, the sea, and a few minute’s walk from the sandy Readymoney Cove, this luxury hotel is a wonderful stay for kids, dogs, and grown-ups.

Rich in architecture it’s thought to have been the inspiration for Toad Hall in The Wind in the Willows. Part of the Luxury Family Hotels chain family life is at the core of Fowey Hall.

For Kids:

STrattons

Norfolk’s finest family-run boutique hotel can be found just off the high street in the market town of Swaffham. The 14 eclectic hotel and self-catering rooms are luxurious and chic. The Grove

A bit of a celebrity hangout, The Grove is a favourite with the Beckhams, Kylie and Tom Cruise. Once the former home of the Earls of Clarendon, it’s a mere 18 miles from London. Set within 300 acres of beautiful parkland, this modern luxury hotel is the ideal antidote to the city.
