Hotel Alfonso XIII sits in Puerta de Jerez on the edge of the historic and vibrant Santa Cruz neighbourhood. Yards away from Seville Cathedral, the Giralda, and the banks of the River Guadalquivir, sightseeing couldn’t be easier. It has great transport links with a tram stop outside the hotel gate and metro close by.

History of Hotel ALfonso XIII
The opulent and luxurious hotel was born out of the idea of being the grandest hotel in Europe. Built by King Alfonso XIII for the 1929 Expo’s VIP guests, dignitaries, and royalty the hotel took twelve years of construction to achieve its level of luxury and magnificence.
Completely renovated in 2012, the soul, glamour, and heritage have been maintained showcasing the iconic hotel to a new generation of traveller. It has since been a longtime host to the rich and famous from Sophia Loren and Brad Pitt to Barack Obama and Madonna.
Inside Hotel Alfonso XIII
The architecture encapsulates the unique regional identity of Andalucia incorporating Sevillian and strong Moorish influences.
Throughout the palatial hotel admire the grand arches, ceramic tiles, Andalusian frescoes and ornate wrought-iron balconies.
Even after the refurbishment a lot of the original decor remains like the marble floors, mirrored vintage wooden lifts and grandiose crystal chandeliers.

Rooms at hotel Alfonso XIII
The hotel holds 151 rooms ranging from reasonably sized doubles to palatial suites. Rooms are individually decorated, and our grand deluxe room boasted bohemian crystal chandeliers, Castillan dark furniture and wardrobes with upholstered trunk-like drawers.
The bathroom was the star of the room with dazzling copper and white ceramic arabesque tiles, complemented by elegant marble floors. The rainforest shower and bathtub along with the twin basin and luxury toiletries all added to the opulence.

Dining at Hotel ALfonso XIII
Breakfast at Restaurant San Fernando in the atrium surrounding the central courtyard is a spectacular affair, offering everything from made-to-order omelettes, pastries, carrot cake, bircher muesli and of course freshly squeezed Seville orange juice.
By night Restaurant San Fernando turns into a formal dining restaurant serving authentic regional cuisine alongside international options, infused with live piano notes. There is no vegetarian menu on offer which I find odd in a hotel of this calibre. Nonetheless, the chef is happy to accommodate and create dishes.
The hotel tapas restaurant Ena by Carles Abellan on the beautiful terrace at the front of the hotel delights diners with innovative tapas and modern Sevillian cuisine. In the winter outdoor heaters are in action and in summer misting fans to keep you cool, the perfect spot for any time of the year. A great spot any time of the year to enjoy a glass of Cava and watch the world go by.
Travel back to the 1930s with a drink at the elegant Art Deco Bar Americano. Named so in the past Spanish taverns which had long bars used to be known as American bars.
Facilities At Hotel Alfonso XIII
For a hotel of its size, there is naturally plenty of facilities for the guests including a gym, sauna and outdoor swimming pool. In my opinion, the pool is a little on the small side compared to the size of the hotel, so perhaps not as luxurious as you would expect. Travelling in winter I can only imagine how busy it gets in the summer when the temperatures are sweltering.

The onsite Mimo shop has gourmet delicacies such as extra virgin olive oil, orange and truffle honey and jamon iberico. They also host unique gastronomic experiences like wine tasting, ham carving classes, tapas and flamenco tours and cooking classes.

Should you stay at Hotel Alfonso XIII
Hotel Alfonso XII is well-placed for visitors looking to explore the city of Seville and offers a luxurious setting with great service.
There is no doubt there is something special about the hotel. I completely fell in love with the exquisite interiors. No doubt about where I’ll be staying on my next visit to this stunning Andalusian city.

How beautiful is that! The attention to detail is exquisite. Such opulence yet it doesn’t look OTT!! A place to fall in love with. I’ve always wanted to go to Seville but this takes the wishing to another level. I’d go just to see Hotel Alfonso XIII and the rest of Seville would be a bonus!

It certainly does. Kids wise, fine for babies in terms of cots and high chairs provided. There is no kids club or kids only swimming pool.

One of the things I loved about Seville were the Moorish influences from the architecture to the food.
